Donald Rodenbeck (1936-2014)

Donald RodenbeckDonald Frederick Rodenbeck, 78, of Clear Lake, formerly of Shell Rock and Waverly, died Thursday, Sept. 25, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

He was born July 27, 1936, in Bristow, son of Herman and Anna Dirks Rodenbeck. He married Ruth Albrecht on Sept. 7, 1958, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly.

Donald graduated from Shell Rock High School in 1955. He worked for a grain aeration company and for Crystal Heating and Plumbing until he opened his own business in 1964. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, American Legion and life member of AMVETS and the VFW.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Rick (Karen) of Overland Park, Kan.; two grandsons, Blake and Kyle Rodenbeck of Overland Park; seven brothers and sisters, Lucille Thompson, Lavon Green and Dorothy Knoedler, all of Shell Rock, Victoria Boettcher of Waverly, Dale (Louann) Rodenbeck of Weslaco, Texas, Ed Rodenbeck of Waterloo and Lynn Rodenbeck of New Hartford; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and brothers-in-law.

He enjoyed cooking and entertaining, boating, golfing, fishing, playing cards, attending sporting events and their many trips to Hawaii. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.
