Peter’s Focus October 2015

But seeing the wind, he became frightened and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt? When they got into the boat, the wind stopped. Matthew 14:30-32 (NASB)

Peter left the boat and walked on water. Then in this familiar story, Peter took his eyes from Jesus and started looking at the waves and wind.

Peter’s loss of focus was only for a moment. But he began to sink. Before his head was under the water he cried, “Lord, save me,” immediately calling on only one who could help. He reached for the rescuing hand of Jesus and was lifted up. After a few words, with the wind still raging, they went back to the vessel together.

We all lose focus. This world is full of distractions. Do I always refocus as quickly as Peter did here? I’d have to answer, “No even when the wind and waves are obvious. As quickly as Peter did, I also need to reach for Christ’s rescuing arms, so that he can walk me back to where I need to be.
