The Memorial Day services were held on Monday, May 26. Mary, Donna, Patty, Veronica, and Amy participated in the parade and the ceremony at Harlington Cemetery.
Chaplain, Marj Reinhardt, reported that she had delivered grave markers for Wilma Cooley and Jodie Iserman.
This past month we lost a valuable auxiliary member, Lottie Napiecek. Mary, Jean, Marge, and Marj participated in Lottie’s memorial graveside service. 22 auxiliary members attended her service
The State Convention was held June 6 through June 8 in Marshalltown. Mary, Donna, Jean, Marj, Marge, and Edie attended the convention. The auxiliary won the following awards: State Gavelier Award – Runner Up to Jean Lanske for signing up the most new members, Auxiliary Member of the Year to Lavon Juhl. Lavon and Marj Reinhardt were presented Auxiliary members of the year by AMVETS, Child Welfare Award, Community Service Award, Hazel Vondracek Memorial Americanism Award – Runner Up, Isabelle McAvoy Memorial History Book Award, Department Hospital Chairman’s Award – Runner Up. Jean Lanske has been chosen as the new state representative for the Iowa Veterans’ Home. Marj and Lavon received Governor’s Awards for their 35 years of service to the Veterans’ Home at a ceremony at the Gallagher Bluedorn on June 17.
We want to thank Jean Lanske for the purchased of an auxiliary flag. She has donated it to our auxiliary.
Look for the Auxiliary’s Float during the Heritage Days parade “Saluting Freedom”. Give thanks to those who have served and pray for those now protecting our freedom.
Membership is important – for without membership, Service programs would not be possible. Membership equals volunteers and volunteers equal service. We need membership to serve our Veterans.
