Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We had a great membership dinner, well attended by our auxiliary members, new members, and special guests including State Auxiliary President, Reece Caslavka, 1st Vice Carol Finger, and our entertainment for the evening, Katie LaHue. Katie had us singing, clapping, and jumping up and down as she explained how music is used as therapy from the tiniest babies to the elderly. If you have not renewed for the 2015-2016 year, please do so by December 15th. At just $20.00 per year, your membership can do so much to help our veterans and their families. If you would like to do more, attend our monthly meetings, donate baked goods when called upon, travel to Marshalltown with the group to volunteer at the VA home, or offer to help with our food nights.

We just finished filling out reports for what our Auxiliary had accomplished the last 6 month. Thank you to those who have turned in your volunteer hours, donations made to various project, helped throughout the community, at hospitals and nursing homes, and have supported our schools and our veterans and their families.

This year, we are also collecting items to be donated to the Marshalltown VA home. We are asking for full size only items of personal hygiene products, new puzzle books, and new larger size sweatshirts or pants. There is a collection box at the WAVP building and when the ladies travel to Marshalltown in January we will take all items collected. Last year we collected a large trunk full of items. Let’s set the goal to exceed that amount!

Food nights hosted by our auxiliary continue to be a great fundraiser for the auxiliary. Money raised from the dinners have supported our scholarship program, donations to the Bremer Co. VA, WAVP, and to our various State Auxiliary Projects. Some of the State Projects include: John Tracy clinics for the hearing impaired, PAWS with a Cause, Retrieving Freedom, St. Jude’s Hospitals for Children, local VA hospitals and clinics, Honor Flight, and more.

If you would like to help out more, please contact me or better yet, attend our monthly meetings. Space does not allow for me to tell you all that we do and can be done throughout our community. Many hands make light work!

With the upcoming Holidays, look for special nights hosted by the Auxiliary. In December, we will host a holiday Hors D’ Oeuvre party with the opportunity to “glitz” up for the night and enjoy great food. Rumor has it that a New Year’s Eve party is being planned. Your thoughts about this are welcomed and if you are willing to help with the planning, please contact me or anyone of the officers.
