This year the Auxiliary will present 3 scholarships to 3 deserving high school seniors. One of the scholarships will be presented with the help from the family of auxiliary member Wilma Cooley whom passed away this past year.
Auxiliary members continue to volunteer at the Veteran’s home in Marshalltown. A day there includes helping in their craft room preparing items that some of the residents can finish and sell in their gift shop. Later that day members help transport residents to the cafeteria for an after noon of Bingo. Afterwards it is transporting them back to their rooms. If you want to experience a rewarding day volunteering, contact Lavon Juhl, Hospital Chairperson, at 352-2641. They travel to Marshalltown the first Friday of month. On May 7th the Marshalltown Veteran’s home hosts a luncheon to honor those that volunteer there.
State AMVETS convention will be held June 6-8 in Marshalltown. Interesting members can pre-register and hotel information is available by contacting me. It would be nice to have a large Waverly Post #79 group attend. The main objective is to elect new State Officers.
The Auxiliary continues to host Thursday food nights. Usually it is the 4th Thursday of the month. May 22nd we will be serving shredded turkey sandwiches, salad, and a dessert. Profit from our food night helps fund our Scholarship program. Please continue to support the food night activities.
Please find more information elsewhere in the newsletter concerning Memorial Day activities. Volunteers are always needed to place graveside markers, put up and take down flags.
Membership is important – for without membership, Service programs would not be possible. Membership equals volunteers and volunteers equal service. We need membership to serve our Veterans.
