First, I would like to thank everyone attending the recognition dinner on January 20th. It truly was wonderful to have such great support from Waverly AMVETS #79. It was at this dinner that AMVETS National Commander Marion Polk announce the ad that was to be placed in the Super Bowl Program and how the NFL rejected our ad, stating it was too political. Since then, there has been a lot of media coverage about this. AMVETS stood firm on the wording in this ad “Please Stand”. It is only a request that everyone properly respect the flag.
February is Scholarship Month. Forms have been taken to the High School for our local, Department, and National AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship. If you have anyone needing a form you can get them also by contacting me. If the past we have awarded our local scholarship to someone outside the W-SR area.
Reminder that the Ladies travel to Marshalltown to the IVH on February 2nd. If you would like to join them, contact Jean Lanske.
AMVETS meeting on February 14th and the Auxiliary meets February 21th both at 7:00.
The Sons will be meeting February 12th @ 7:00 and are looking to find more Sons to become active. Bring ideas to share for projects, volunteering, and helping the Sons of AMVETS grow in membership.
Please continue to support the Auxiliary on their food nights and AMVETS on their Steak nights. These two activities raise money to be used for scholarships, community projects, and supporting Veteran’s needs and their families.
To find out more about what you can do to help, plan to attend the monthly meetings.
