I just want to mention a few things to bring everyone up to date prior to the end of the year regarding items that will affect AMVETS.
Last month the WAVP received a grant from the Northeast Iowa Community Foundation for the amount of $100,000.00. They felt this project was an investment for Waverly’s future, not only for Veterans, but the whole community. They understood that we see ourselves as residents of a great Waverly Community first, there to help when needed and as Veterans second, proud of our service to maintain the freedoms we all enjoy.
On November 17th, the City of Waverly presented the WAVP with a check for $100,000.00 at their council meeting. This also reflects upon Veterans as part of this Community in a positive manner. Our Waverly Community continues to have young men and women willing to step forward and serve in the military, reserves or National Guard. WAVP supporters want to provide them with a facility with new technology, access to information that they need, be there for them and still maintain a facility to hold the history of those before us.
On November 11th area Veterans were shown the support of the Community through many activities on Veterans Day 2014. These included free meals, Centre activities, participation in Veterans Day activities and best of all, was a show of support and thanks.
This next year will bring some big changes and challenges, but Waverly has seen many challenges. Waverly’s Veterans and WAVP, along with the Community support, will meet these head on and we all can say; “2015 – Bring it on”.
